They just let her go? They thought she was such a threat that she needed to die, then just let her go? Doesn’t sound like what a cop would do.

Reminds me of how they arrested the adults in a hot van and left the young children behind. Luckily bystanders were around to save them from dying in the overheating vehicle.
That would be almost as stupid as it is malicious, so yeah that sounds extremely plausible
