If you add the words “liberal, capitalist” in front of democracy, I agree with you. But I believe that democracy as a whole is a worthy ideal worth striving towards, in all areas of public life.

Yeah, I agree that the left and liberals are broadly opposed to AI, and the right dove in headfirst. I just don’t get how lacking the ability to spew shitty cat videos and deepfakes means we on the left are hampering our own progress.
Falling behind in what way? Financial advantage? I’m not sure that the left have ever had that. How would adopting AI aid the left’s cause?
It feels early to call AI triumphant. The bubble is going to burst sooner or later
Oof, that sucks. Ballot initiatives have been huge for progressive victories. It’s how Michigan legalized cannabis and put abortion rights in the state constitution. It’s a shame they aren’t everywhere.
It happened here in Michigan a few years ago. It took a ballot initiative, but it’s made a positive difference - it broke the Republican gerrymandered grip on the legislature
Just wait until he has a conversation with the AI freaks in his admin. He changes policy based on the last person he talks to. What an idiot.
Which med is that?
Everyone’s risk tolerance is different, but a 99.96% chance that I would not experience irreversible side effects feels like pretty good odds
I think it depends on if the money is already out the door or not.
Yeah, I’m going to echo the other comment - I don’t think doctors should ever be able to deny trans people healthcare. If it’s something out of their expertise, a referral might make sense. But right now there’s a lot of movement towards denying us healthcare, and I don’t think we should be giving that side any more excuses for their bigotry.
Genuinely curious - what is the difference between detritus and dirt?
Even better! He’s a micro manager, but he isn’t actually a manager. He’s just convinced he should have a finger in everything and always be listened to because he’s been there forever.
Yeah. If you go through the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA), you get baptized, given communion, and get confirmed all at the same time on Easter. Having a sponsor is part of the sacrament of confirmation.
At least that’s the way my church growing up did it. I’m sure there are exceptions for extenuating circumstances and differences across countries.
They are kinda like that. If you aren’t born in the Catholic Church, it’s kind of a pain to get in. You have to do classes for at least a year and have someone sponsor you. It makes sense - they take their belief seriously and want to make sure that people joining know what they’re getting into
Eh, not as a kid. I got a phone in high school once I got my driver’s license. But yeah, parents are a blast, huh?
How are you feeling about cops and the government these days?
Yeah, my parents made us leave our cell phones on the kitchen counter so they could read our texts every night, and they installed software on our computers that took screenshots every 5 seconds.
I wonder why I have issues with authority figures and privacy?
Yes, but that would mean that logic has any bearing on what the Supreme Court decides to do
I’m in the process of moving, and the almost 7% rates on mortgages suck. But if you gotta move, you gotta move, you know?
