Summary

Bradley Bartell, a Trump voter from Wisconsin, started a GoFundMe to raise $3,000 for his wife Camila Muñoz’s bond after ICE detained her.

Muñoz, a Peruvian citizen, overstayed her work-study visa due to the pandemic and was seeking legal residency as Bartell’s spouse. She was arrested returning from a honeymoon in Puerto Rico.

Bartell continues to maintain that he does not regret voting for Trump.

Since Trump’s return to office, ICE has arrested over 90,000 immigrants.

The thoughts I’d be sending are all “fuck this dude, I hope she divorces him when she finds out this is what he voted for”.

Why the fuck should anybody give this guy money to help him avoid the inevitable consequences of the policy regime that he voted in and still supports?

I’m not against helping but in this case …

    1. “overstayed her work-study visa” -> Break the rules and it’s likely there will be consequences. The reason why does not matter. ( although the case handling officer can show sympathy if they seem the reason valid )
    2. I’m no Trump fan, but he was clear on his plans, yet he still voted for trump

    So, no, I’m not donating.

Yeah fr, this is awful PR. Of course he would vote for Trump again, he is doing exactly what he promised and this fucker knows it.

She did break the law, any way you look at it.

Getting to and staying in the country shouldn’t be so hard. To me, that seems like the fundamental issue, and so many breaking the law was a workaround to a shitty system.

Americans doing a GoFundMe is always funny to me. Like you clearly understand if you pool together money, you can make a big impact. For example when little Timmy needs a big operation and can’t afford it, people can start a GoFundMe, everyone chips in a little bit of money and Timmy is covered. So if we scale that up a bit… NO, THAT’S COMMUNISM!

It’s racism. In America the answer is almost always racism.

Basically, with a GoFundMe, or ‘churches taking care of the poor’, or whathaveyou, you can make sure your money goes only to the poor Good Christian white folks, and none of it gets used to help those icky brown folks. Unlike government programs which have to help everyone equally.

Considering communism has a centrally planned economy this is not analogous at all. You’re thinking more in line with social programs which I do agree

Brad, this is what Trump does. You may succeed in raising that money, but someone else may not be so lucky. What would you say then?
