For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Oppressors are control freaks and imagine they can completely control the reaction to every action. But there is always an undercurrent of change. It may not be visible, but that doesn’t mean change isn’t happening, that resistance isn’t growing. And eventually, given enough pressure, it will erupt like a volcano. Vive la revolution.
But it is a process that usually takes several lifetimes (even centuries if the establishment is adaptable) to erupt. Don’t expect to be so lucky that it happens exactly in your lifetime.
How many other Banksy’s have been removed?
It seems to me he has been celebrated for most of his ‘career’.
I mean we all know why this one was scrubbed, but I’m kinda curious.
Government when Banksy creates artwork critical of their rivals: “Haha, so true! We’ll let this fine artwork stay up.”
Government when Banksy creates artwork critical of them: “Our feelings are hurt and we’re removing this vile graffiti post-haste!”
There have been a few. If I recall correctly one in the tube was removed by cleaners not knowing how valuable it was. IIRC they made a statement along the lines of ‘we’re cleaners, not art critics’ and that was a good chuckle
Look what Paris is currently up to — now that’s an un-peaceful protest.
It’s been overwhelmingly peaceful, especially when put in perspective to the size, typical media bait…
Streisand effect type shit
Some people play checkers, others play chess
Easy to trap even a powerful opponent when they are playing the wrong game
Genius moves, Banksy
