DAE think this game is vastly overrated? It’s not bad by any means, but in my experience it doesn’t really do anything exceptionally well compared to the competition.
I enjoyed Graveyard Keeper. One big difference from Stardew is that there’s no hard bedtime, and sleep is more of a suggestion until you go for too long without it.
It was one of the first titles of this genre on PC, it’s the work of one fucking person, it’s afaik the first title that focused for the NPC stories on a broad emotional range, the price of the game remained relatively low through all this and even though the game released 9 years ago it’s still maintained and updated for free and on a regular base. Last but not least there is an awesome modding community as well.
Saying there’s nothing concerned ape or SDV in general are exceptionally good at, is definitely not true. It can be not you cup of tea, that’s fine, but I play a fuckton of games and none deliver a comparable product support, game development over time and inclusion of the community. And that’s what people love about this game.
The solo aspect is honestly really impressive. I’ve done my fair share of game dev and tried all sorts of roles. I am definitely not a jack of all trades though. I cannot for the life of me understand music. Last time I tried music, I made a 10s long audio that sounded mediocre and doesn’t even loop properly.
I played stardew after fully getting addicted to harvest moon like a decade before it.
I was happy but also kind of annoyed, because this is basically just harvest moon. Like its so much “harvest moon but also on xbox” that they surely must be getting sued for plagiarism or something.
Going back to harvest moon after stardew is a challenge to say the least. Nearly every aspect has been improved upon.
It has many things harvest moon doesnt have. Combat, and more exploration. It has more building and upgrades. More furniture to buy. It is in a similar vein but stardew is basically what harvest moon should have been.
There are people, like me, who never ever had a console and are just PC-gamers. Harvest moon could’ve been the tIt’s, but I would never know.
To me, obviously, stardew is king.
I love stardew so I disagree with you, but I know the game is not for everyone and definitely know people that would agree with you so I feel the downvoting is a bit unfair for you.
But also SV rocks and you should give it another chance.
I wouldn’t say it’s overrated because I don’t really see people saying it’s the best game of all time or anything like that. But it enjoys a good amount of popularity from a very large number of people because it’s fun, rewarding, replayable, and fairly easy.
It wasn’t the best, but it did a lot of thing right. It also released in a period where the direct competitor basically run the genre to the ground and drag it for kilometres, the timing is just right that people remember they actually like cozy farming sim like Harvest Moon. There is no other choice before Stardew, other than Harvest Moon and Story of Seasons, one is only a shell of its former glory, and the other one is locked behind a console.
If you consider the vaaaast amount of mods for SV, how could it not be king? Whatever you dislike, you change. Whatever you like, you add to it.
This makes even mediocre games superb. See e.g. skyrim.
Yeah sure MC is damn moddable too. But haven’t touched it in many years and it’s not on nexusmods hence it’s off my radar.
Though MC was great without mods. At least when the alpha started. It was a revelation

I’ve yet to find a single game on par with stardew valley in the competition, and it’s not even close
I’m honestly curious what is Stardew competition, as I had fun playing SV?

I was gonna say you’re entitled to your opinion but then you mentioned the competition that doesn’t compare.
What is the competition from your perspective? Sunhaven? Coral Island?
Stardew Valley does so much better than their competition, that the competition started to copy Stardew Valley

Mods?
If you bring mods to the table, minecraft is the most moddable game. There’s a mod for everything good or bad.
Edit: even tho it’s not official

Which one? There’s two games in the meme? Or are you just gaining aggro shotgun style?
