No-one is saying “stop building solar and wind”. Nuclear is for transitioning and should’ve been built 10-20 years ago, but now is also a good time.
Better blame an immigrant!
It’s better than coal and oil. People shit the bed because of 2 big events that happened to old reactor types which were susceptible to such errors.
Honestly, would you rather live in a world where nuclear and gas are used to transition or coal and oil? Wind and solar still can’t power all of Europe 24/7. Solutions are being worked on, tested, and built, but in the meantime, I’ll sleep better with coal and oil centrals being replaced by nuclear. They will use less space, provide more stable power, and serve as a fine transition until the storage issue has been solved.
Of course subsidies for coal and oil should be phased out ASAP, but let’s not paint a pure coal and oil transitional period as better.
Germany is a already a nazi state. The elections are just lagging. If the majority were really against Nazis, these fucks wouldn’t even be in parliament, but the majority is just silently OK with it because they either don’t vote or vote for AfD-lite.
Not only the average voter is OK with the narrative, the editor of newpapers like DW are too:
After the AfD, which is classified as partly right-wing extremist, became the strongest force in the city of 265,000 inhabitants with 24.7% of votes in the federal elections in February, it is now hoping for more success deep in western Germany.
They have been classified right-wing, not “partly”.
Will somebody shoot this guy to make him a martyr?
Slava Ukraini!
Zelensky… why are you doing this?
One can only hope.
Putin will surrender within a year? An ex-spy said the same thing in 2023 and it didn’t happen. If the war ended this year, it would be great for Europe. I imagine the reduction in fake news from Russia would drop significantly.
Having guaranteed buyers for your product is great for China. As long as the war goes on, they will be able to sell their goods to Russia at a price they see fit. They can saddle Russia with insane debt like a developing country. It could be very interesting to see Chinese be taught as the first foreign language in Russia as part of a deal.
Hopefully though, Western powers (and the US) will be able to supply enough to end the war or at least push back the Russians and secure the original borders. I do wonder just when that could happen.
There’s a nice middle, which we’re getting out of right now. People were dumb, but not too dumb. Now they are becoming too dumb thanks to social media, worse education, and other influences.
However my personal and of course anecdotal experience is that if your policies are well chosen and your theories grounded in research and even well informed common sense it’s much easier to lead smart, well educated people
That requires a lot more work and the most likely outcome is that right-wing, neo-liberal, and conservative policies will be much less likely to be the default.
For the simple reason that planes are subsidised.
“Battles”. They don’t really care, come on now. If they cared, they’d be educating people, but they need a dumb populace in order to control them more easily.
Germany got the jitters from an event that can’t happen even remotely similarly in their country. A sustained investment in nuclear power would’ve paved the way for renewables and rendered fossil fuels worthless. Now we’re here…
One can only hope that the Eurostack will be opensource. That way contributions can come from everywhere and won’t be tied to a single nation or economic region. My expectations are low though…
They are rivals? Why? That doesn’t make much sense. Shouldn’t they be colleagues?
France has been right about digital sovereignty since the beginning. It’s a little disappointing that it hasn’t gone very far. Maybe this will give it new momentum.
If the Gendarmerie can do it, the national police should be able to too, but from what I read, they are years behind on wages.
If this doesn’t get the French state to get Microsoft and US tech out of all their public offices, I don’t know what will.
Being egoistic and wanting society to pitch in at the same time is a core tenet of the US republican party. Privatise the gains, socialise the losses is a big thing there. There are millions of people like that and unfortunately they are influencing the world-wide discourse on the issue.
