We’re not talking about you specifically, and it detracts from the message and the seriousness of the situation to use your specific situation as possibly representative of the rest of the country. If all people who can would strike, then we would be in a good place. You’re an essential worker. We’re not trying to kill off our elders.
Then get a better ducking message that speaks to the people your are trying to speak to or this is what you are going to be running into again and again and no one’s is going to actually hear what you are saying.
And yes that means start being specific. No one knows specifically what to do. No one knows who specifically can be of help. No one knows how specifically to contribute. No one knows who specifically can be trusted. No one knows why specifically they are being targeted. No one knows who specifically can be of help to them specifically
Bland broad blind comments will yield you absolutely nothing. Do the work and talk TO the people you are actually talking to.
Then keep on talking. Keep repeating your message again and again until little DO know specifically what they CAN do
I remember reading about a japanese bus strike where the bus drivers kept doing their job, but stopped collecting the money.
There are also examples from around the world where healthcare workers go to quite serious lengths to ensure delivery of service is maintained while a nurses/doctora strike is taken.
So a general strike could be an option, but isn’t necessary to send a message. In fact more targetted strikes that leave dialogue and service on the table shows the protestors acting in good faith, potentially opening different avenues to bridge the divide between childish-oligarchic-cunts (management/upper class), and the workers.
All i’m saying is theres more options than blowing up the system, and staged, measured, predictable responses to the others actions can be extrememely effective in showing the often ridiculous demands of the other side’s position.
A general strike does not mean a total strike. It’s enough people at the same time across enough of industries that it can’t easily be negotiated, manipulated, precluded or shut it down.
Um… I work in elder care. If my team strikes 80+ will die.

“But how do we change things without any risk or sacrifice?”
Fantastic.
If you’re OK with elderly people starving to death and dying from infected wounds to make a point, you can fuck right off.
