If the right-wing media start inventing stories about Greenland, Canada and Panama being threats to the USA, I don’t trust the US public to see through them. Many will, of course, but then many saw through the Iraq stuff too, just not enough.

They have made clear that US citizenship does not protect you from deportation. It couldn’t be more obvious that no one is safe from these fascists. So fight on behalf of those who are being persecuted (immigrants, LGBTQ+ people, women) because they’re just the current front line of the battle against forces that are coming for you sooner or later.

The problem is, Canada has been secure so far because the USA has been an ally, and Russia knew that an attack on Canada from the north would be resisted by the USA. Not to mention the impracticality of the attack when the Arctic is frozen. But now the Arctic is becoming viable for ships and Canada finds itself sandwiched between two hostile nations, Russia and the USA, with the USA more likely to.collaborate with Russia in destroying Canada than to defend it. And Canada’s military is very small compared to either of those countries.

It’s being dismantled by Conservative provincial governments. And in Ontario at least, people can’t even be bothered to vote for a party that will preserve it. But I’d rather stay an independent country with problems that be taken by the USA.

I know that many Americans don’t like this either. But Canada is unable to defend itself against the US military without serious help. And I don’t completely trust that a US population that couldn’t be bothered to vote against Trump would take any action to stop him if he were to give the order to invade.

Well, the two countries that would benefit from Canada’s nonexistence are the USA and Russia. There might be a clue in that as to who is seeding these ideas in Republican circles.

It’s the talk of a hostile mobster nation. It resembles Putin’s hostility towards Russia’s neighbours.

But dropping Space Force doesn’t make poor people’s lives worse.

Some Americans do. Other Americans hate those Americans fairly passionately.

It seems the USA’s preference is to keep people in inhumane prisons indefinitely without charge, at great expense to US taxpayers. Just turning them around at the border is not considered cruel enough.
