It’s a game with procedurally generated content, so it has infinite content. It’s also a great multiplayer co-op game, where you need to work together with friends to accomplish things.

I have almost 1600 hours on Rocket League. I don’t play anymore (actually haven’t touched it in years) but it was the thrill of competition that kept me going, not the content.

Really depends on how you treat the game. If you’re solo PvE there’s like 100 hours. If you’re playing with friends and treating it as a PvP game, it’s essentially endless content.

Games are about having a good time. If your idea of a good time is story and completionism, then sure, what a waste of time. Some people just want to vibe, role play, or socialize.

Also some people just leave launchers open and rack up ghost hours unintentionally.

Edit: I’m amused there’s so many reasons for leaving the launcher open I didn’t even think of. Personally, mine was just having a bad habit of playing Elite Dangerous until I fell asleep in the chair. Computer would go to sleep, I’d rack an extra ~16 hours before ei came back. Then I’d remember to check in the morning, cutting it down to like 7 extra hours. I probably have 100-200 racked up from before I got better sleep commitment. 2020 was an interesting time in which time itself didn’t matter for a bit. Rounding 1100 hours now.

Leave satisfactory running while you go to work, and there are full containers stacked ten high when you get home.

I’ve never left the home for an emergency and come home a week later to find geralt on his horse waiting for me to get back

An uncommon case, but I like to suspend the game process so I can get back into the game without wading through loading screens etc. But with Steam at least playtime tracking increases during this time so it seems like I have 100s of hours of playtime.

I remember when idling was the easiest way to get TF2 drops so someone made a map with fire at the spawn to slowly kill idlers.

        Anything for hats.

I had eight separate accounts to farm drops. I don’t think it really provided any real value. At one point my backpack was worth over $200, which for a kid with no income was a lot of money. I still have some of my favorite items, even though I haven’t played TF2 in years.

Yup, I have about 2k hours on Destiny because I’d leave the launcher open while it was updating or offline.

We played the fuck out of elite dangerous. Still do, sometimes. But during the pandemic when even the outdoors were largely shut down, and it was snowing sideways… I’m getting close to 1,100 hours too.

Glad to see another player! There’s at least 4 of us here. I still love it, but play rate dropped way down when I went back to the office with a commute. I believe I hit about 700 hours 2020-2021. The events over the last year rekindled my interest and acquired my focus. The Thargoid invasion was fun, though I didn’t do much battle. But I nabbed a few dozen base-level goid kills since surface-based air battles didn’t have swarms. There were a few lucrative community goals since then as well. I made 1.5 billion last month with a cargo haul loop where I managed top 25% (mild addiction). I’m close to handing in the current CG with exploration data, though I’m not sure what the payout really will be. Should be solid top 50% for that.

I’m not into the grind. I’m into the vibe. 1000+ hours with ~23 ships but only 4.x bil in the bank. High imp rank (got the Cutter) but still 2 ranks below unlocking the Corvette. Aside from CGs, I don’t really do any activity more than 3 play sessions in a row.

The CGs are fun! I liked playing Elite back when Void opals and Borann didn’t mean too much grind. Exploration with exobio can still net you money in a pinch, but it’s a bit less fun than core mining or wing laser mining with pirates and 400T+ in the cargo hold.

I miss the high stakes/high reward gameplay that made elite feel dangerous, when your miners needed lasers and sidewinder missiles. I’m hopeful that they will bring mining back that can make enough money to support carriers.

All that said, work towards the Corvette! It’s one of the best large ships in the game. Twin Class 4 plasma accelerators w/engineering, g5 dirty drag drives, and prismatic shields are insane. Put a multicannon on the bottom, two turretted lasers with thermal vent effects on top, and sidewinder racks on the side for long range interdictions. Having an AI pilot with a fixed laser taipan or fixed multi cannon F63 is insane for throwing power around too. Throw some SCBs on for the prismatics, and you can be in CZs or haz reses for a long time, safely.

This is true. Could have just left the title screen up so he could jump in and save 45 seconds. I never do this personally because I want an accurate hour count.

SoT is as much a chill game as it is competitive or grindy. I’ve probably spent a couple hundred hours in that game just fishing.
