Summary
A federal judge has challenged the Trump administration’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) over its abrupt cancellation of climate research grants worth billions.
Judge Tanya Chutkan told EPA lawyers they must present “some kind of evidence” of wrongdoing to justify cutting the funds.
The lawsuit, led by Climate United, seeks to recover $7 billion in frozen grants. EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, who has aggressively rolled back climate protections, called the move part of ending “climate-change religion.”
Chutkan ordered new filings by Monday to assess the legality of the cancellations.
