The closest McDonald’s to me has a local BBQ joint right next to it at about the same price point. There’s zero value prop, but these dumb-dumbs had to realize it after they lost a shitload of customers.
Even a decade or two ago, I just don’t get why people would choose McD in that situation. Maybe if you’re in a rush, I guess? And it was probably cheaper than BBQ back then, I suppose.
I wonder what McDonald’s profit margin at the individual store level is, these days? I would bet they have to send a pretty outrageous cut back to HQ, whereas even if the BBQ place is a small chain, they’re probably not hand tied like that.

They only take the money printer off autopilot when it stops printing money.
Literally the only thing I’ll go there for is a happy meal for the kids on very rare occasion if I’m in a pinch.
It’s incredible McDonalds lasted that long.

Yeah the BBQ place’s pricing has stayed more or less the same, while McD’s has steadily increased their prices into that range.
Bingo.

I thought home office made money on franchise fees, not sales. My info is probably outdated, though.
From their website: https://www.mcdonalds.com/ca/en-ca/about-us/franchising/the-financials.html

But according to other sites:

That doesn’t include marketing fees, so its more like 8%+ of gross sales, not profit, which is a lot! On top of tons of other fees.
