    I’m much more skeptical.

Yes, there are indeed the hardcore qanon magats who don’t care about policy and just care about making sure people storm pizza parlors to murder Hilary Clinton.

But for the vast majority? It is “maverick republicans” all over again. They will get angry and complain about how people are saying things and MIGHT actually disagree with specific policies. But when it comes time to vote? They always pick hatred and vote along party lines.

I do genuinely believe a good chunk of the base will have a problem having to admit that they support people who rape children (as opposed to trying to ignore it). But the moment it is a choice between a rapist and someone who wants Socialism!? Okay, as long as they don’t rape MY child. Too much. I mean, Little Timmy can take one for the team if it means stopping those uppity Negroes.

I think a good part of MAGA are just contrarians: they’re against everything, but especially against anything that seems vaguely mainstream. Trump speaks that language complete with uncomplicated villains and one-sentence solutions. Trump is against his own policies as soon as they’ve taken hold. That’s how he keeps his base - [It] is bad, because of [these] people, but I’ll fix it.

He can’t commandeer Epstein that way, because every possible Epstein-villain group includes Trump. The disciples who can still support him are stuck with the ‘God works through flawed messenger’ narrative, and that doesn’t work on the contrarians. ‘Flawed messenger’ is for the evangelicals who have an actual agenda and see Trump as a tool to work that agenda.

Oh yeah I’m not super hopeful about the core. But it is never the core you need to operate on. It’s the smaller percentage of first movers. It’s also important to not see the movement as a monolith. There are factions and they don’t all believe the same things.

I really need to find the links, but there are clear examples of them is fragmentation happening. There were some clips on the Majority Report of the Vinnie form the OBD podcast basically getting gaslit over these issues (specifically America first). It was legit hilarious but also highlights the point: Trump is obviously covering for Epstein and doing fuck all to support Americans interests.

So if you can amplify and focus that story like, and get it into their feeds from sources they won’t question (it can’t be coming from mainstream media), it can work it’s way in and erode the relationship.

We don’t need to carve off 50% or even 10%. 1-3% is more than plenty to send the movement spiralling, because it’s mostly based on interia. Pushing it into retrograde and showing negative momentum is the death of a popular movement.
