I wish we could go back to 2003, when the US didn’t go to war for regime change
Social media took up the place in my life for most of my reading, that has since changed since finding a Library app for books and, of course, the nazification of most platforms
Please tell about this library app
Libby is (I just found out) one of several apps that let you read anything digitally available at your library, there are some other libraries that allow you to get a card for a small fee.
upside- Can read on your phone (I use dark background with while letters). can have more than one library other apps allow movie and digital media borrowing
downside: popular books have multiple people waiting in line for a copy, you can place holds, etc.
Not gonna lie, I looked into this at my local library and seeing a waiting list for an ebook radicalized me against capitalism just that little bit more
Well then…let me just also introduce you to https://onlinereadfreenovel.com/
there are others like this if you don’t want to wait for a library book…they get revenue from ads (nothing obnoxious) so it’s legit(?).
My friend Anna let’s me access her Archive when I’m looking for literature, but thanks for the additional resource!
Variety is the spice that must flow…or something like that
One source is no source etc etc
Long story short; Seed for your Peers
Somehow I doubt the trend away from reading for recreation has anything to do with the retail price of books.
I’d tend to agree but every little bit helps.
Also consider the effect of redirecting fractions of the cost to deploy warships and effective regime change of a sovereign country towards the funding of libraries.
BTW: Reducing or removing VAT will rarely if ever benefit the consumer. Companies try to price close to the price you are willing to pay. So if you are used to pay a price with VAT included you will probably pay the same price without VAT.
That makes sense, thank you for the insight! That makes Denmark’s policy largely performative then?
Or it’s to increase profit for the book industry.
As long as we’re stuck with the current socioeconomic system I’d rather see trash-ass publishing companies get that money than the defense industry.
It probably is. It brought reading to front and centre. Good advertising.
