Well, I fear for their safety and mental health because trans people are treated awfully in prison. Often they’re shunted into secure housing (solitary confinement, which is basically socially acceptable torture) for their entire sentence; sometimes it’s to mess with them and sometimes it’s truly the safest place in the facility, and I don’t know which is worse.
This specific prison actually already has plenty of experience with trans and non-binary people. Even long before it was a bigger topic. They’ll manage.
Excellent to hear that this specific instance is unlikely to cause harm. I know some countries, like Denmark, make things difficult for trans people despite their progressivism in other areas, so I wasn’t sure.
This is in Germany, I don’t know if that makes a difference with how trans folks are treated in prison but other aspects of prison vary from country to country.
