      Microshit still got a payment… Stop feedingg the parasite.

      Microsoft cut a deal with the manufacturer of my laptop, to have Windows pre-installed. They did so as a loss leader, with the expectation of future earnings based on my usage of Windows 11.

          They do, but the OEM rates are significantly lower than what you or I would pay, and they get cheaper by volume so the big OEMs are paying very, very little per unit.

              Unless things have changed, that was true even if you buy one of their official Linux or No OS/Other OS laptops based on the price. You probably have to go with a smaller company like System76 or Framework that explicitly offers Linux as a first class option and isn’t big enough to get roped into some extremely lucrative evil contract.

        I think that’s a European/Australian consumer protection thing, I can’t think of a manufacturer that allows it in the US.

        I’d be so cool if the movement pushing people to switch their win10 to Linux would be like ‘btw, if you’re looking for a win11 machine this is how you can get it with a discount’
