Wait poppler-utils can do a lot of pdf related things. Haven’t tried rearranging but it has tools for separating pages and uniting them. And pandoc can covert between a lot of document formats. But it doesn’t do it from pdf, can use pdftext, inkscape, graphicsmagick etc based on what you want to extract (text, vector graphics, raster graphics) etc.

Yup. I made a scientific analysis program. Using CLI and your own editors you can do so much. And instead of focusing on making the algorithms, I had to focus on making a GUI for months because people need things to click.

And then even with very responsive and easy GUI, with like just 5 types of “views” and probably like <5 buttons/inputs each, people are like “it seems complicated” within like 1 minutes of demo. They haven’t even tried to use it or tried to learn anything. I even modeled the views to be as similar to another software they use.

I feel like people just don’t like computers.

It’s actually true because in my laptop I feel powerful, I have so many things to do and the choices. In my phone I’m at the mercy of apps and algorithms.

It was there since a long time. People coming to US are warned by foreign organizations about the port checking the contents of their phone, text, photos, apps etc. It just didn’t happen as often as it does now.

So anyone has a good suggestion for countries that accept people with PhDs are are nice to different race of people (I have a mixed family). Lots of countries are starting to lean right so I’m a bit scared moving somewhere where I don’t understand the native language since I saw how immigrants in US (and even people in their home country) like trump because they don’t get the whole picture and only know news through multiple transfers and biases.

Even if the current administration goes back to what it was I feel like the attack on science and overall direction of the people’s thoughts aren’t going to change overnight and it might be hard living as a scientist.

The reality where people cannot afford $10-20 things. And the corporations just start charging those poor people interest.
