Damn that is excellently put.
Very understandably, most reasonable people are uncomfortable with violence* but then we seem powerless at the state level to stop the gradual rise of violent ideology that everyone knows will end in classes of vulnerable people who are no longer protected by the prohibition on non-state violence.
* state violence that is part of the script of life isn’t scary for some reason though.
Saving your comment.
That’s entirely where the perspective comes from, even if it’s second-hand, since most other people don’t have direct experience living in a communist society.
Or Nazi society for that matter, but got the most part we have consensus on that one being universally awful.
Never accept the first offer though
Me but I’m going back to almond or soy (the hard stuff) merk instead of the more virtuous plain oat melk.
Farewell from fediverse!
Yeah more like breathless anticipation
I feel the urge to bully this man rising unbidden from deep inside me. He’s got the look of a mark 😳
Started with serf ideology, then voter ideology, then women ideology, then gay ideology, and now trans ideology?! Where will it end — when every person has rights??!
has someone made sure, or are we just trusting he won’t come back in some more hateful second form
I’m sensing a pattern.
No but seriously, the psychopathic allure of leadership (Forbes, sry just the first link I found) is leading to civilization scale decisions which are 1) out of sync with what a reasonable person wants, 2) counter to general human flourishing.
Tech leadership wants us to worry about potential ethical “alignment issues” with a theoretical AGI, but we’re already in crisis if those leading us don’t share our basic human values.
PS. I’m not trying to say psychopaths nonghuman. They’re the same species and probably as conscious as I am. I just don’t think they’re an apt choice to decide matters for humans who do have empathy. Imagine a chef with no sense of taste running a restaurant kind of deal.
the only way to stop a violent fascist is to give them whatever they want
– violent fascists
Neighbours at least talking to each other
If funny looking hate mongers aren’t safe, then who is??
You’re speculating that an internet wouldn’t have emerged without capitalism. Capitalism exists, therefore we can’t know if that’s true or not.
I worked at a place that had self-hosted git and IRC for internal messaging. Was great!
From my perspective that seems to be happening. I feel like there’s a rift between the websites I use for work and the ones I use on my own time. I realize that for most people on the internet, the big central platforms are the internet–I’m not trying to universalize my perspective.
It’s just that I remember when computers and the internet itself were niche and business was still barely aware of its potential, so this kind of feels familiar: You’ve got biz churning away in the mainstream, unaware of another culture that’s growing up, outside of their malls and parking lots.
Maybe just a liittle cancer until we get smartphones and then we can nip it in the bud and ooops why is everyone mad oh no why are all the animals dying I just wanted to scroll for gods sake
Food didn’t actually spill and video doesn’t even show anything breaking. Bah! I’m happy it worked out, but I was kind of hoping to see a tragedy within the bounds of human comprehension for once.
