  • Hey I work in inpatient psych too and want to back you up. It’s totally a known observation that patients have been coming in younger and younger. And it’s very common to see a history of drug use of some kind (yeah usually for kids it’s weed, if not polysubstance).

Sad to see because once they start coming back to the hospital a few times, it’s like they’re in the system so to speak. Too many kids don’t break out of that cycle. I always discharge kids like, “I hope to never see you again. Don’t come back here” lol.

  • Went camping for a night out in the remote Amazon jungle, accompanied by local guides. The next morning we were trekking and heard a strange buzzing and hissing sound. It filled the rainforest and sounded like we stumbled into a witches coven or something. There was loud whooping and whistling, but more than anything - this ominous chorus of sustained droning.

Turned out it was a pack of giant Amazon river otters in the water. These guys get as big as 6 ft. The sound was so freaky and they were bearing their fangs at us trying to intimidate. No doubt they could have ripped us to shreds if they wanted to. I managed to take a short video. After a couple minutes they climbed out of the water and galloped into the jungle. And I mean it when I say galloped. We couldn’t believe how fast they could move on land.

I firmly believe that these are the last animals you would want to come face to face with in all of the Amazon. I would rather face a jaguar than a mob of angry giant river otters.

  • there are certain species with a darker side—for example, carnivorous caterpillars that eat aphids, butterflies that drink alligator tears, or “vampire” moths that feed on livestock blood. Add to that list the newly discovered “bone collector” caterpillar, which conducts daring raids on spider webs for sustenance, camouflaging itself in the body parts of already-consumed insects to avoid being eaten.

If you’re going to live in Smaug’s lair, you’d better look like treasure."

Dude this is natureismetal micro edition!
