Not really. They just love power and attention. Vaccines became a populist issue, so they’re constructing policy based on that instead of facts and science.
Doing what their misguided base wants keeps them in power. And misguiding their base to pay attention to things other than economic policy makes it so they can use their power to further enrich themselves.
And even when they talk about economic policy, most people don’t understand that tariffs are taxes on the American people. And if they don’t get that, they definitely don’t understand that a trade deficit isn’t a bad thing in a post-industrial society because we sell information and services that don’t rely on expensive physical resources.
And what kinds of people are fooled by that? The lesser educated. So slash budgets for schools and universities, especially those that are prominent and lean left. And slashing those budgets has already led to very significant setbacks in research of new treatments for a wide variety of ailments.
But hey, at least that money is going to… hey, what are they gonna spend all that money on now that the government is no longer paying?
Anyway, what I’m getting at is they don’t hate us. They are using us as pawns. They are depraved and indifferent to our suffering so long as they get more money and power.
My favorite is when the sites just block access to IPs in those states instead of trying to comply with the laws with a message that says “Your state won’t let us do business and we refuse to violate your privacy.” VPNs gonna see a huge spike in purchases, and lots of angry gooners gonna start writing their representatives as their favorites sites drop off one by one.

Gorilla. No doubt in my mind. It’s a hell of a lot easier to keep track of where one gorilla is compared to 5 black snakes.
One gorilla will probably ignore me as long as I keep my distance. Keeping distance and even putting a wall or 3 between you and the gorilla is trivial in a place as large as a mall.
On the other hand, snakes might mostly ignore me, but since I don’t know where the fuckers are, it’s a lot easier to accidentally startle or threaten one.

I’d go to the food court, put out a cornucopia of food, make sure the gorilla sees me leave it there for them, bow respectfully and slink away, then spend the rest of the 24 hours clear on the opposite side of the mall.
This all assumes that the gorilla isn’t enraged for any particular reason or starving. But even if so, I think gorilla is the safer answer, just the evasion technique changes.
The problem is that AI halucinates and says things that aren’t true with full confidence.
To me, saying “I used AI to answer a question” is no different than saying “I asked my neighbor. He’s pretty smart and knows about these things.” He might be right 95% of the time but his words should not be treated or repeated as facts without independent verificatfon.
Or put another way, if the top result in your Google search is a reddit post, maybe look at some other sites too.
So to this person stating that they used AI, thank you for being honest. Now we know that your info might need a little more analysis if there’s any error or dispute.
I’m not saying that we shouldn’t use AI, it’s an excellent tool. Just saying that we need to be mindful of what LLMs really are.
