I’m originally Lebanese, grewup in the UK due to civil war / Israeli invasion in the late 70’s early 80’s. I’ve always been fascinated with politics and history, I cannot (or rather I can, but it shocks me) understand how seemingly quickly America has regressed into fascism. The silent majority is going to destroy what little freedoms remain. As you said, this will reverberate around the world and we have seen a shift to the right across Europe in the past several years. The one saving grace with this Trump administration is their actions have reversed the political climate in Canada and Australia and hopefully it will spread.

The billionaire class are the biggest threat to the entire world and I feel Americans are not doing nearly enough to stop Trump, Musk, Theil et al. The left should be shutting down the country!

I actually got that, and that’s why I mentioned common sense. Absolute freedom of speech cannot exisit in a world within most legal frameworks because people cannot be trusted to not act on violent rhetoric. ( January 6’s attack on the US capitol is a prime example of the consequences of that).

True, because words have meaning. If I have millions of followers on social media, and I say “Americans have killed hundreds of thousands of Arabs, and all Arabs have a duty to kill Americans”. That is free speech, but i’m inciting people to murder, and that has consequences. Take a look at twitter these days, pure misinformation and blatant racism. This is no longer free speech, this is weaponising words. I know it’s an extremely fine line but have we lost all common sense in the basics of right and wrong?

Ever since political correctness became a thing in the 80’s limits on “free speech” have been placed to protect certain groups, and while many words we used back then are considered slurs today, and understandably so, I feel we’ve lost the way a bit. People taking offence at everything is a bit out of control. However, JD Vance et al seem more interested in being allowed to spread misinformation unchecked in the name of free speech, and that is something that should be a massive red flag. Free speech is one thing, but there should be consequences when said free speech can incite or fuel negative steroetypes, violence or villification of certain groups.

You are of course correct, I meant corporate / political lobbies (looking at you AIPAC and big pharma, tobacco et al). I think the biggest issue of course is that major lobbyies are, as you stated, nothing but bribery. I remember in the early 90’s when John Major was elected PM of England, he’d previously failed a bus conductors exam and worked as a bank teller, in the US, if you’re not ultra rich it’s practically impossible to make any headway in politics.

As a non American, but with friends and family there, I think you need civil war 2.0. I don’t say this lightly as I grew up in a country ravaged by a civil war and subsequent wars. However, the left is trying to play by the rules while the Trump and his handlers are ripping up the rule book and seem to be unstopable. Maybe when the dust settles your constitution needs fixing, to keep lobbyists, billionaires and corporations out of politics.

Unfortunately nothing changed, and Israel has doubled down. I genuinely wouldn’t be surprised if Americans start to feel push back soon as well given Trump and Maga running towards fascism at break neck speed.
