“Guided by humanitarian considerations, today from 18:00 00:00 from Sunday to Monday, the Russian side declares an Easter truce. I order that all military actions be stopped for this period.”

Fuck this guy and his ‘humanitarian considerations’ 3 years after invading his neighour, killing its people and stealing its childen - he finally deigns to give a whole 2 days reprieve (likely to be broken) because he’s finally felt a teeney bit of pressure from t’old Donald.

He used “humanitarian truces” to trick and kill Ukrainians before.

The only reason why he does it is because he sees it as an occasion to gain an advantage somehow.

Because given Russias track record, they lie about stopping with fighting. Multiple times.

So slap me silly for being skeptical.

Only a fool would trust Putin to honor a cease fire, so even if it’s true and is honored, no Ukrainian is going to be able to relax. Meaningless gesture backed by a history of breaking such agreements.

It’s just bait anyway. If they don’t break it themselves (very likely to, given their history), they truce and then if Ukraine attacks, they go “look Ukraine attacked us when we wanted a truce!”. If Ukraine does nothing, Russia get the breather to move troops, resupply etc.

If Ukraine wants a breather they can agree to it knowing they need to stay alert for the Russians to break it.

If Ukraine doesn’t want to play that game, they can just say “we’ll agree to a ceasefire when you leave Ukraine permanently” and carry on.

You guys will literally read “Russia will stop fighting” and complain

You might want to re-read the comment you replied to.

They’re not complaining about Putin stopping the killing temporarily (or at least his claims of such). They’re complaining that he’s acting like he’s doing some sort of humanitarian good in doing so.

Translation: “we’re dangerously low on supplies in a bunch of areas and we need to rush some logistics in without Ukraine blowing them up”

I genuinely do hope Zelenskyy completely ignores this unilaterally-declared truce

I’m sure they have ammo, it’s just an attempt to look humane. Posturing. Breaks are a good thing though, and as long as they don’t use that opportunity to resupply or gain territory as you have suggested, which I agree would be the likely outcome if accepted.

How many hours until Russia blame Ukraine for breaking the truce without providing any proof?
