Trump is humorless and dangerous. The “just joking” defense falls apart upon actual scrutiny of Trump’s character. He for the most part lacks a genuine sense of humor, which requires a degree of humility and capacity for self-deprecation. He’s tried to have late night hosts taken off the air for making jokes at his expense. Saturday Night Live has long been a target of his humorless rage.

Conservatives think all jokes are sincere hatred you’re allowed to get away with. They don’t understand the concept of saying something and not meaning it. That’s why ‘by your logic’ never fucking works. They’ll sneer ‘oh now you believe that,’ when, no, they believe that. Except they don’t believe anything. Their stated beliefs are ad-hoc justifications. They’re only ever working backwards from ingroup loyalty.
That’s all they think you’re doing. That’s all they think there is.
