DaVinci Resolve has a free version and is made by an Australian company.

Kdenlive is open source and from a non-profit registered in Germany.

Kdenlive is amazing and crazy intuitive. I went in knowing nothing and was able to make great stuff.

I haven’t tried it myself, because I hear it’s very crash-happy. Have you had better experiences?

Based on the other responses to this, I’d say it really varies from person to person.

In my case, Kdenlive does in fact tend to crash often the longer I use it in a single session. It tends to get unstable on my system after around 2-3 hours of continuous work.

I remember losing an hour’s worth of progress once, and from that point I’ve been saving my stuff compulsively. At least it taught me good habits!

I’ve done around 8 videos, ~3 minute in length, each with several clips, many effects, audio track, not a single crash ever.

I’ve not used it extensively but never had it crash and it’s also undergone several large patches in recent times. Give it a go, it’s free after all.
