Well yes. Those statistics are painting a picture of black people being much more likely to be murderers than white people because of their skin colour. It makes it seem like the skin colour is the issue. Since skin colour is inherited that would mean tendencies to murder people are also inherited. Which would form a basis on which racist actions are justified. All of this just because the graph oversimplifies. The actual factors that cause people to commit homicide are complex and include amongst others income, gender, upbringing, view of women and mental health issues. Those correlate with skin colour but require very different actions to solve. So pushing back against those oversimplified statistics and removing them is good since the takeaway’s from it are wrong.

I totally read those stats differently, that black people are more likely to be murder suspects (not convicted necessarily but let’s be real) because of systematic racism. White people can’t possibly be murderers, right guys??? But I also am not familiar with the meme background so maybe that’s skewing my reading of it.

Between this and the “bro” thing, is lemmy.world being raided by Xitter or something? I never even heard of this till now, it seems like something passed around in right-wing circles.

The video this is referring to is heavily edited, it relates to a teenage girl allegedly posting threats and insults under a false name, the police officers are there to confiscate the phone of the accused. The mother filmed the incident and then posted a edited version of it to falsify the fact why the officers showed up to confiscate the phone.

Yes, police showing up to confiscate the phone of a teenager is a bad look and the whole thing is messy and weird, but if the allegations are true and the posts and messages caused the recipients distress and fear it is a crime that at least needs to be investigated.

The framing you are choosing now is deeply racist and hateful, further muddying the waters regarding an already troubling incident and pushing racist ideology.

Or have a netflix documentary made about it. You know, one or the other.

Oldest statistic in the white supremacist book. Obviously people that are more oppressed, poor, discriminated against in school/job/housing will commit more crimes.

Not sure if it’s even related but the text under each colour pair from left to right says:
      Population, Murder victims, Murder suspects.
With orange resembling black people and blue resembling white.
