Far right hate and repeated attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of other countries including the UK. The man can spend orders of magnitude more money than the cost of an entire UK general election campaign and not even notice - that kind of influence is antithetical to a free democracy.
I’ve long thought twitter, by its nature, was corrosive to civil society, but unfortunately that won’t be fixed by replacing it with another short-form rage-machine.

Fuck that defeatist bullshit. “Oh, what’s the point of keeping billionaires out of social media?”
Well, there have been things that were not shit, precisely because there weren’t billionaire assholes fucking it up. It does happen, it’s not inevitable.
Though, it makes it more likely when you spread defeatist bullshit like this.
It’s the idea that social media, in its current incarnation, in and of itself, conceivably CAN’T be rid of these problems. It’s an emergent property and it’s entirely possible there is NO way to deal with manipulation or misinformation. Even federation doesn’t eliminate the problem, and it’s far past time to talk about the possibility that the only way to avoid the negative impact of social media is to not have social media - at least not in ANYTHING like its current form.

You’re probably right, unfortunately!

I think you might be misunderstanding the point.

I don’t understand who or what attitude this is supposed to be paraphrasing.
