Donald Tusk says operation was launched after ‘repeated violations of Polish airspace’

Poland scrambled its own and Nato air defences to shoot down several drones that entered its airspace on Wednesday morning, as Russia’s attack on Ukraine spread to Nato territory in the most significant way since the full-scale invasion more than three years ago.

Donald Tusk, Poland’s prime minister, convened an emergency meeting of the council of ministers at 8am local time, and said he was in “constant contact” with Nato’s secretary general, Mark Rutte.

“We are dealing with a large-scale provocation … We are ready to repel such provocations. The situation is serious, and no one doubts that we must prepare for various scenarios,” said Tusk on Wednesday morning.

I’ve been saying for years that NATO should state that any attacks near its borders are a red line. Any aerial attacks on Lviv should have triggered NATO response and deployment of troops in Ukraine to provide air cover for territories close to NATO borders. This is exactly why. If you let Russia attack Lviv they will eventually attack NATO. Sadly they didn’t care enough about the war to do anything. Will see if this changes now.

Russia is reminding me quite a bit of Germany’s expansionism in the 1930s. I wonder what groups they want to put into camps.

While it has its own disgusting traits that are unique to itself, Russia under the Yednaya Rossiya Party / Putin Mafia is by far the closest contemporary thing to Nazi Germany today.

I don’t think area is a fair criteria. Israel is a way smaller country but they are expanding in every possible direction. They expanded “buffer zones” in Syria (basically invaded and now occupy it, and that’s beyond Golan) and Lebanon and are stealing land on the West Bank. They also regularly bomb Yemen, Iran and have now bombed Qatar among many others. So far Russia only invaded Ukraine and Georgia. So yes, the area is smaller but Israel is way more aggressive in their pursuit of Lebensraum.

Broadly bombing enemies all over the world makes them more akin to America at its worst, which is its own problem.

Russia is far more old school in its methods and goals, their goals and behaivor is that out of the 16th thru 18th century. Naked land grabs.

Israel isnt about territory and empire builiding outside of its immediate periphery, its just about aggressively neutralizing everything that they even remotely think will be a threat to them now or in 30 years.

Is it time to do that thing we’ve been mostly successful at avoiding for nearly a century? Will have to try and snag a piece of Moscow-flavored radioactive glass once the big light show is finished.

Should be more than enough for the few people left afterward. If I have the questionable luck to be one of them, it’ll give me something interesting to look at while the radiation poisoning melts me from the inside.
