More Americans applied for refugee status in Canada in the first half of 2025 than in all of 2024, and more than in any full year since 2019, according to data published on Thursday by Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Board.

Their share of total refugee claims – 245 of about 55,000 – is small and Canada’s acceptance of U.S. refugee claims has historically been low. Asylum-seekers from other countries crossing the land border from the U.S. are sent back under a bilateral agreement with the reasoning that they should apply for asylum in the first “safe” country they arrived in.

Would you tell Jews or Germans fleeing in the 30’s the same? Some of them will do more from the safety of Canada.

If you guys really think that the United States is genuinely comparable to Nazi Germany, then why the fuck are you doing nothing about it? Pretending that you can just migrate to another country, find work, live your life isn’t doing something. There are massive logistic hurdles to do that. Spending time on some social media app wistfully complaining doesn’t do much either. Is everyone’s anger here performative or real? Have you guys done anything other than gripe to forestall whatever is coming?

And what would you have us all do? To be honest (as a straight, white dude in America with no real minority status) im pissed as all hell. Ive watched what was initially a kinda shitty country turn to straight far right Authoritarian in a heartbeat, and I dont want any of this shit. But aside from a large scale revolution, which includes burning it all down and starting over from scratch, what the hell do we do. Our votes all count the same, so we can go out and vote but we wont always have numbers. Realistically all I feel empowered to do is bitch on social media UNTIL something big pops off, and then go participate in it.

lmao nazism pratically started in the USA, we had kkk before, and a nazi party that never was eradicated, and the nazis took some pointers form the USA on how to discriminate better.
