Brian Cornell to be replaced next year as retailer navigates boycott over its scaling back of DEI initiatives
The CEO of Target is stepping down, as the embattled retail giant seeks to turn around its fortunes amid an ongoing customer boycott over its scaling back of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.
Brian Cornell will be replaced next year by Michael Fiddelke, Target’s chief operating officer, the company said on Wednesday.
Boycotts work.
He is still chairman of the board so did they work?
The headlines are that he resigned, and that’s as far as most people got. To those people, the boycott worked, and that’s good enough. Propaganda can work for our side, too.
Perfect is the mortal enemy of good.
Yep, there are a lot more positives than negatives. The boycott FORCED Target to respond in a very public manner, and for the CEO to take a humiliating public slap.
Could it have been worse? Sure, but nobody likes to be humiliated in public, and every CEO of every major corporation is seeing this, and understanding that it could easily have been them, and the next time, it may be. This demonstrated the power of the Public, and they will certainly factor this incident into their calculations, when they are strategizing how to deal with the MAGA Nazis.
