A former Israeli captive has admitted that she felt more safe and protected in Gaza than in Israel, the Hebrew Maariv newspaper reported yesterday. Mia Schem, 23, was released as part of a prisoner swap deal in November 2023.

Earlier this month, Schem identified herself as the plaintiff in a previously reported rape case against a famouse personal trainer in Tel Aviv, who is a prominent figure on social media and has several celebrity clients, including a former prime minister.

According to the paper, Schem alleged that the rape took place in her home, using a date rape drug, and that she does not remember many of the details.

A court placed a complete gag order on the investigation including the identities of the parties involved.

According to official reports, while thousands of sexual harassment and assault cases are reported each year, almost nine out of ten rape cases are closed without charges.

I’m just going to point out the contradiction in Israeli society where sexual violence by Hamas drives the population to apoplectic spasms while the rape of a citizen by a public figure gets the shrug of the shoulders and “she’s just doing it for attention/money”.

And somehow every time Zionists are filmed in some sort of protest, they’re always threatening rape.

Exactly what I’m referring to. Similar things were said at the campus protests too.

You’re white-washing Israel’s genocidal society. They rioted in the streets and proudly protested on TV for the right to rape Palestinian prisoners.

      This is genocidal mania.

It’s bonkers. This is why I think that morality derived from religion is very fragile. Rape is one of the few things that should be considered a vile act, no matter the context. Even murder can be justified if done in self defense, or to protect a loved one. But rape is never justified. If someone rapes someone, or even threatens to rape, I no longer consider them to be human.

Yet, these so called religious people have no qualms with it, as long as it happens to the people they hate.

Zionism is an ethnosupremacist fascist ideology. Conflating Zionism with Judaism is false and dangerous. This is a problem with conservatism, right-wing ideologies always dehumanize based on whatever is deemed inferior, be it race, gender, religion, ect.

I’m not conflating those. It’s true for all religions. People claim to be religious and then do the most vile things. Extremist sects like Zionists make it worse, but the nature of morality in religion makes it vulnerable to corruption. If your morality comes from a book, it changes quickly when someone presents you with a different interpretation.

Zionism is not a religious sect though. It is a secular movement and has nothing to do with religion. The founders of Zionism were very open about their Atheism. They do not follow the Torah, else they would have to wait for their Messiah to lead them into Palestine.

I definitely agree that people / ideologies co-opt religion to justify their own ends. But I also know many people do not practice religion this way, and that there are religious groups that practice religion in a progressive way. Just wanted to decouple that co-opt / corruption of religion from religion itself being evil. I’ve seen people use the latter to justify hatred against entire peoples practicing a religion; it’s clear that you’re not doing anything like that. Thanks for the reply
