Proxmox Home lab with a NAS, and a jellyfin server. Wireguard to access remotely. Symphonium for android. All local, but now multiple devices can access your library. Added bonus of not needing an apple product.
Because I wanted a thing that isn’t my phone. All it does is play music. No apps, no games, no YouTube, no socials. Nothing but music. And it’s pretty nice.
Used my old s9 for same reason, 512gb SD card and 100k songs later…
Didn’t watch, but I assume it’s because some people like to own their music.
That and dedicated devices with better quality vs a swiss army knife that isn’t really great a single thing, just good at a lot of things.

The piece primarily talked about out the listening experience. It’s a focused experience without notifications, listening is more intentional and curated (not controlled by algos), it’s nostalgic, and modding iPods it pretty fun.
