Maxar satellite captured the aftermath of a Ukrainian Defense Forces strike on a Russian strategic aviation airfield’s warehouses

Satellite images from the American aerospace company Maxar dated March 21 show damage to ammunition warehouses at the “Engels-2” airfield in Russia’s Saratov region. Craters from explosions can be seen where some buildings once stood. The airfield is known as the base from which Russian strategic aviation aircraft have repeatedly launched large-scale missile strikes on Ukraine.

“These warehouses specifically housed containers for Kh-101/Kh-555 missiles, which Russia uses for attacks on Ukraine from Tu-160 and Tu-95 aircraft. There is also a possibility that the pre-launch missile preparation center was located there and was also destroyed,” aviation expert Anatoliy Khrapchynskyi told Skhemy.

A day earlier, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that on the night of March 20, Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the Engels-2 airfield, resulting in a fire and the detonation of stored ammunition.
